A survey comprised of 15 questions was developed to explore how Catholics in the Diocese of Phoenix were responding to the recent Church scandal.
The survey was open from October 4, 2018, through the end of November 2018.
There were nine Likert questions, two qualitative questions, and four demographic questions.
A total of over 1,600 respondents completed the survey in English. Thirty-five completed the survey in Spanish.
The summary of responses contained in this report were obtained on the morning of November 7, 2018, which at that time was 1,599 respondents and represents the analysis for the English survey only.
The majority of the responses were from women (58.4%) compared to men (38.9%).
The majority of the responses were from people aged above 41 years old and identified as white (85.1%); 13.5% were Hispanic or Latino.
The majority of the respondents self-identified as active Catholics (97.7%), which was defined as believing in God and attending Mass.
